Five in custody over Leicester explosion that demolished building and killed five

Police have made two more arrests in connection with the deadly Leicester explosion, bringing the total in custody to five.

 The men, both aged in their 30s and from East Anglia, are being held on suspicion of conspiracy to cause an explosion.

 They will also be quizzed over alleged offences under the Proceeds of Crime Act, Leicestershire Police said this afternoon.

Three other men remain in custody after the blast, which demolished a Polish store and two-storey flat and killed five people.

The trio were arrested on suspicion of manslaughter on Wednesday and continue to be questioned by police. Mary Ragoobeer, 46, and her sons Shane, 18, and Sean, 17, are feared to have died in Sunday evening's explosion.

 However, they are awaiting formal identification.

 The three suspects arrested on suspicion of manslaughter are from the East Midlands, East Anglia and the North West.

 Today, police were granted extra time to quiz them by magistrates. Detectives have until Sunday evening to either charge or bail the trio, who are also in their 30s.

 In a statement this afternoon, the force said: "Two more men have been arrested today by detectives investigating the cause of an explosion and fire at a Leicester mini supermarket which left five people dead on Sunday evening.

 "The men, both in their 30s, and both from East Anglia, have been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to cause an explosion and for offences under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

 "Both are in police custody where they will be questioned by detectives.

 "No further details about these men, or the three others arrested on Wednesday and still in custody, will be released at this time."
