This was followed by jail sentence for three of the company’s managers.
Video of employees being slapped and made to crawl in the compound of the building where the company is located in Zunyi, Guizhou province have gone viral on the internet.
The post on social media site, Weibo, was made last week by an employee using hashtag “employees who failed to meet their goals forced to drink urine”.
The post was viewed almost 540,000
times. One of the videos showed a topless man being whipped by another man in the center of a room where several people watched around.
It also showed people drinking yellow liquid from a cup.
The post was later deleted but saved by many people.
A Chinese news website carried screen shots of mobile phone messages from the company’s managers threatening staff with various punishments if they did not meet sales targets set by the company.
“If the sales goal has not been met by the end of this month, the team leader will have to eat three cockroaches for each failed sale,” one text message read.
The company’s staff appraisal method involved getting employees to crawl on the grounds of the office building.
Company managers devised other forms of punishment that include forcing staff to drink vinegar or toilet water, shave off their heads, sell condoms and sanitary pads on the street, according to their text messages.
Zunyi police said on its social media site that two of the company managers have been jailed for 10 days, while a third manager will spend five days in jail.
Social media sites have also carried posts saying the company has not paid salary to employees for past two months.
