The Defense Research Development Bureau (DRDB) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Erisco Food for the production and supply of ready to eat meals for troops of the Nigerian military fighting insurgency in the country.
During the signing of the MoU, director general of the DRDB, Air Vice Marshal Onyemeachi Osahor, said food is an essential requirement for a soldier to prosecute any war.
According to him, with the food ready to eat, soldiers deployed into areas where they might not get resupply for days or weeks, will be able to survive. He said, “There are things that a nation should not procure from other nations.
Food for your troops is one of such things. Nigeria is a great nation; it is not something of pride for us to say we are procuring from other countries to prosecute a war.
“With this food, our soldiers who are deployed into areas where they might not get resupply for days or weeks, will be able to survive it.
Even when you have planned resupply during a war, circumstances may arise that it may become difficult to get the resupply to the troops difficult.
And sometimes, you wish you had supplied the soldier with compo ration.”
He explained that the compo ration has a shelf life of two years. Also speaking, the CEO of Erisco Foods, Chief Eric Umeofia, thanked the military for their sacrifices in keeping the nation safe.
Continue to collaborate with the military to ensure that they carry out their responsibilities effectively.
He thanked the President Muhammadu Buhari administration for believing in indigenous companies.
