Selma Blair has disclosed about her life with multiple sclerosis, four months after her diagnosis.  She said, “I really feel like people with disabilities are invisible to a lot of people,” she told Vanity Fair.

“There’s no tragedy for me. I’m happy.” The actor – who has starred in films such as Cruel Intentions and Legally Blonde – walked the Vanity Fair Oscars red carpet on February 24 wearing a colourful Ralph & Russo dress and a black walking cane.

The latter resulted in people applauding the actor for being open about the difficulties she faces due to her condition. MS, which is an incurable condition that affects the brain or spinal cord, and causes balance, vision and muscle problems, currently affects around 100,000 in the UK.

Blair first revealed she had been diagnosed with MS on Instagram in October last year. In the powerful post, she expressed gratitude towards some of her friends – including Sarah Michelle Gellar and Jaime King. “I have #multiplesclerosis… I am disabled. I fall sometimes. I drop things. My memory is foggy. And my left side is asking for directions from a broken GPS,” Blair wrote.

“I am in the thick of it but I hope to give some hope to others. And even to myself. You can’t get help unless you ask. It can be overwhelming in the beginning… But I am a forthcoming person and I want my life to be full somehow.”
