According to Mauresmo, Murray worked with the former French player Amelie Mauresmo from 2014 to 2016, making huge steps forward. At the time Murray made a huge effort mentally and physically, which was too big

"It's almost impossible to see him suffering like this", she said in an interview to Socrates magazine.

"You could clearly feel that a difficult time is coming, but at some point it came the time where you cannot keep going."

Mauresmo added: on Murray's hip injury, "He took some risk when he decided to undergo surgery, but he had no other option.

He tried everything, he changed his diet and much more, I am keeping fingers crossed for him, as he prepares for the last challenge." "He was always very capable to suffer. Looking back, I would say he exaggerated, he maybe was too ambitious.

One of my jobs was to help him keeping the self control and deal with his nerves better, and in the end he reached a point where I could not help him anymore. But it was a great journey and a successful co-operation."

Murray last played an official match at this year's Australian Open losing to Roberto Bautista Agut in five sets. He hopes to play Wimbledon, but he is unlikely to make it this year.
